After Maharashtra, Telangana Government Also Instructed Multiplexes To Sell Packaged Food At MRP.

After Maharashtra Government’s applauding initiative to instruct multiplexes not to charge more than the MRP on food and beverages in the multiplexes from August 1, the step is getting spurred and other governments are also following the footprints now.

In the recent action, Telangana Government also announced that the same law will be implemented in the state and multiplexes will have to sell products according to the MRP from the same date (Aug 1). Also, they must allow moviegoers to carry food brought from outside.

People generally avoid buying food and beverages at a multiplex due to the exorbitant prices they are charged. It is sometimes 3 to 5 times higher than the MRP. Moreover, they do not allow any packaged food to be carried inside, and thus ultimately get compelled to buy from the vendors at theatres.

Municipal Administration Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar said that he would find out the legalities for instructing multiplexes to allow customers to carry outside food. According to his tweet, he is trying to get a copy of the Maharashtra notification and then will try to introduce the same in Telangana.

On the other hand, one interesting reply he got from a user that “Packed snacks and water bottles are fine sir, but if we allow biryanis, rice items, etc. it will kill the experience of cinema. The smell it emits in the closed AC theatres would be unbearable.”

Another tweet reacts, “I hate it when someone opens curd rice and biryanis in bus journeys. It smells too bad, especially in AC. It will be worst.”

All and all, this is a welcoming initiative and must be implemented ASAP. Although there would be initial hiccups but I am sure the government will find a way and stop this loot.
