A number of air crash incidents took place in the past a couple of days raises a big question in the minds of the traveler that which mode of transport is the safest. Although, no mode of transport be it air road or rail can be declared to be the safest as discrepancies have been reported in each one of them in different countries, yet the safety statistics would show which mode is less prone to accidents.
Air:
The incident of the Malaysian Airlines plunging into the sea raised eyebrows of many safety experts. According to the reports from the Bureau of Aircraft Accidents Archives in Geneva, the year 2014 has already witnessed twice the number of aviation accidents as compared to the previous year. However, with the advancement of technology, the structural and mechanical parts of the plane are being designed to be safer. The sophisticated navigation systems are still the most reliable among all other modes of transport.
Rail:
Considering only the European part of the world, over 2300 rail mishaps have happened which caused the death of over 1239 people in the year 2011. Based on the data collected over a period of time from developed countries having good records of safety, the lifetime risk of a person dying in a rail crash is one in 156,169 which more when compared to that of air transport.
Road:
To determine the safety of roads is quite a difficult task due to the large numbers of vehicles which ply on it. Considering the bus as a mode of transport it was found that the rate of deaths in bus accidents is four per one billion kilometers traveled which is same as that of cars.
These facts and figures would clearly give you an idea about which is the safer mode to travel.
