When we go through our workout sessions (be it weight lifting or cardio) a lot of energy is consumed by our body. This energy is produced by burning the food we eat. Food has various nutrition available in a complex form which is broken with the help of catabolic reactions. Each mineral derived from the food has a special role to play.

Food which we eat has an abundant amount of carbs. The body can easily break carbs and produce energy (required to perform daily routine tasks). Protein has a major task at hand always, it needs to repair the worn out muscles and make them ready for future.

When we are in process of our workout, our body starts to utilize the available energy in the body. In this process, the food which we eat is burnt around with all the minerals as well. The fat which is stored by our body to provide energy at the time of fatigue also gets burnt during the workouts. This is the reason we sweat the toxins out and lose weight during workouts.

Once we complete our workout the process of burning food doesn’t stop immediately. The body continues the process till it has restored sufficient amounts of energy. When we take protein immediately after the workout it is burnt by our body to produce energy (as that is the need of the body at that point).

Thus, the extra protein supplements taken just after workouts which had to repair the muscles and make them strong are actually utilized for something else. This is the reason one should prefer taking some carbs instantly after workouts (or during workouts).

Carbs would help the body to extract energy. Post carbs you can take protein which would be used by the body for muscle build-up.
