What is the difference Between Hurricane, Typhoon, and Cyclone?

Names do not matter as they all fall in the ‘Tropical Cyclone’ category. However, their names differ as different basins use various nomenclature. Usually, tropical cyclones are formed in 8 basin- Northern Atlantic, Northeastern Pacific, North Central Pacific, Northwestern Pacific, Northern Indian Ocean, Southwestern Indian Ocean, South and Southwestern Pacific and Southeastern Indian Ocean.

In the North Atlantic Ocean, Northwestern Pacific Ocean east of the International Date Line and South Pacific Ocean, they are called hurricanes. They are tagged as ‘Typhoons’ in the Northwest Pacific Ocean west of the dateline.

In the Southwest Pacific Ocean and Southeast Indian Ocean, they are known as a severe tropical cyclone, In the similar fashion, they are known as severe cyclonic storm and tropical cyclone in the North Indian Ocean and Southwest Indian Ocean.
