No Confidence Motion - Not Discussed

On March 19th, 2018, as more than 25 members from various parties such as TRS and AIADMK trooped into the well of Loksabha, where TRS was demanding a rise in quota and AIADMK demanding for setting up of Cauvery river board, the Loksabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan could not continue as the uproar continued.

Who Submitted the Motion of No Confidence?

Finally, both TDP (Telugu Desam Party) and YSRCP (Yuvajana Sramika Raitu Congress Party) managed to move No confidence motion against the BJP government in Loksabha on this day, which was not discussed due to the protest by more than 25 members. Thota Narasimham and Galla Jayadev, from TDP, have submitted two notices to parliament secretariat while Y V Subbareddy from YSRCP submitted one notice. Both of these parties have been demanding special status for Andhra Pradesh. TDP has quit the ruling NDA alliance on the same issue.

But these were not discussed due to the protests by TRS and AIADMK. The Loksabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan stated saying, “Since the House is not in order, I will not be able to bring it… I am sorry”, regarding the discussion of No Confidence Motion. Due to the disrupted proceedings, the house was adjourned.

What will happen?

Usually, the government in the ruling, (BJP government) should have support from 22 members of Loksabha to stay in power, if a threat like “No confidence motion” gets passed. But now, Narendra Modi government has got a support from more than 300 members, whereas this No confidence motion can never be a threat to them.
