After 49 Countries, IKEA Opens Its Outlet In Hyderabad. And Its Massive Product-Line Will Simply Dumbfound You

The Swedish retail giant IKEA has kicked off its journey in India by opening its very first outlet today (9 Aug 2018) in the erstwhile city of Nizams, Hyderabad. Located in Madhapur, Hitech City, the store has a floor area of 40,000 sq feet with 1000 products. This is the first of the 40+ outlets this largest furniture retailer in the world plans to open here.

The Swedish furniture retail company IKEA is embarking on its journey 5 years after it got the approval to invest in India’s single-brand retail sector.

About 2500 Employee Are Hired

IKEA has directly hired 950 employees and another lot of 1500 people will be hired soon. Moreover, the company has a plan to employ 15,000 people in the years come as it expands its operations in India. IKEA has recruited more than 100 girls from the DISHA pilot project.

Not New To India

Let me highlight here that this is not the first time the company is getting associated with India. As per the CEO of IKEA Group Jesper Brodin, the company has been sourcing Indian manpower for its global stores for more than 30 years.

Worth Rs. 1000 Cr Outlet

To get the Hyderabad outlet up, IKEA has invested ₹ 1000 cr. which spreads across 40,000 square feet and will have over 7,500 products to display. Out of those, 1000 products will be displayed in this plushy store will cost less than ₹ 200. Simply WOW! IKEA, you deserve a HUGE THANK from the customers like me.😉😉 

The officials revealed that about 20% of the products displayed will be locally sourced. This outlet also hosts a market hall where the customers can roam around and pick what they wish to.
