Vasant (Vas) Narasimhan, M.D., Global Head of Drug Development and Chief Medical Officer, was appointed as CEO of the pharma giant company, which is one of the top pharmaceutical organizations, Novartis, by the Board of Directors, which is effective from February 1, 2018.

The earlier Novartis CEO, Joe Jimenez has handed over the fate of $50 billion in assets to drug development chief, Vas Narasimhan and with a belief to take the organization to another level.

Some interesting things to know about the doctor-turned-CEO:

  • He is a Tamilnadu based citizen and has completed his studies in medicine from Harvard Medical School and is a second-generation immigrant in the US.
  • He followed some great Indian personalities like Udit Batra and Ameet Nathwani, who is the executive board of German drugmaker Merck and the executive vice-president of medical affairs at Sanofi, respectively, and became exactly what he wanted to be.
  • Narasimhan, who is 41 now, is one of the members of youthful leaders at Novartis.
  • He worked with a plan for improving the company’s way of the process of the drugs from the laboratory into commercial products, which should work efficiently at all stages.
