Just about a year after the Blue Whale Challenge purportedly prompted various suicides among adolescents over the globe, another game called 'Momo Challenge' is allegedly reassuring youngsters to perform very dangerous tasks.

What is Momo Challenge?

‘Momo’ is a social media account on popular platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp that use an image of a doll with monstrous features, large eyes and a wide mouth to induce curiosity among children.

The Momo Challenge has started on Facebook where users were “challenged” to communicate with an unknown number. After connecting with that unknown number, the Momo account sends a number of challenged and activities that are to be completed to meet ‘Momo’. It involves challenges that encourage children to engage in a series of violent acts that end with suicide. If a user refuses to follow the game’s rules or order then, Momo threatens them with violent images. The account appears to be connected to three numbers in Japan, Mexico, and Columbia.

Deaths linked to Momo Challenge

In Argentina, a 12-year-old kid has committed suicide for momo challenge. The girl filmed her activities and suicide on her phone. Argentina police suspect someone encouraged her to take her own life.

Is the Momo Challenge reported in India?

As per cyber experts, till now there are no reports suggesting the presence of this challenge in India.
