The Delhi JNU professor Atul Johri got out on bail within two hours of arrest, while the Delhi police took five days to arrest him. This has put the whole nation in dismay, focusing on his high-influence. The bail application stated that Atul never harassed anybody and that the allegations are vague, non-specific and no complaint has been registered before the internal complaints committee or the grievance cell of the JNU. Meanwhile, the Delhi high court opinioned that there is no need for the person to be in custody to get the call records or for further proceedings, according to the Section 164 of CRPC. Hence he was granted a conditional bail demanding a surety of Rs. 2,40,000 which means 30,000 for each FIR filed. Secondly, he was asked to join the investigation as and when demanded and he will not be allowed to work in any of his positions he is currently holding.

Protests Continue

Students of the School of Life Sciences are protesting for the expulsion of Prof. Johri from the administrative posts permanently. The students said that they had been facing pressure from various external sources to withdraw the case after the professor in question was released on bail. The students are allegedly facing life-threats from the supporters of this “highly-influential” teacher.

The students said that they did not complain to the University’s Internal complaint committee as they did not have faith in the panel whose members are close associates of Atul Johri. They also replied saying, “The excuse of attendance is being made to give the issue a political color. There is no relation between attendance and sexual harassment. We will continue to protest till he is removed from all the administrative posts he holds.”
