India is the second largest fruit producing country after China. India is followed by the USA, Brazil, and Mexico. The year 2015-16 was a bumper year for the production of fruits and vegetables. With 107 thousand tonnes production, grapes took the first position followed by banana and mangoes.

The growing production shows the growing demand in the country which is a good sign as people are moving towards the natural products. There are 29 states in India and every state. All of them have some famous fruit cultivation places, mainly the small towns grow the world’s best fruits in India. The chief fruit cultivating states are Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and Kerala.
Apple: Three northern states produce the finest quality of apples which is exported with different names. Kotgarh, a small town of Shimla is the apple valley. It is a bowl of apples of India. India is the 7th largest producer of apple in the world. Apples are grown in 274 thousand hectares of land. Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh are known for the production of apples.
Grapes: Grape capital of India, Nasik. The Sahyadri hills are full of the bunches of grapes during the grape season. Many countries get to know the taste of the grapes of Nasik as it is exported on a large scale. It is cultivated on 80,000 hectares of land.
Litchi: Litchi Kingdom of India, Muzaffarpur. Shahi litchis are produced in Bihar on a large scale. The litchis are supplied to all over India. Litchis of Dehradun is also famous. Though they are supplied with a different name. Litchi is cultivated on 72,000 hectares of land.
Pomegranate: Solapur is popular for producing Pomegranate. The National Research Centre on Pomegranate is located in Solapur. 109,000 hectares of land is used for cultivating pomegranate. The drought-prone areas also used for cultivating the fruit.
Cashew nuts: Goa and Tamil Nadu are known for producing cashew nuts. In Goa, Cashew nuts are used for producing Feni, a seasonal Goan spirit.
Orange: Nagpur, a district of Maharashtra, is known for cultivating oranges. The oranges of Nagpur are exported to many countries. Nagpur is called the orange city of India.
Strawberry: Big farms of Mahabaleshwar, Maharashtra produces strawberry. The slopes of the Western Ghats appear red during the season of the fruit. Mulberries and honey are also produced in the hills of Mahabaleshwar.
Mangoes: The flavor of the mangoes of India is known to the entire world. Alphonso mangoes of Ratnagiri are the world’s best mangoes. Mango is the fruit produced at a very large scale. 2309,000 hectares of land is used for cultivating mangoes. Mango is the national fruit of India. Alfonso is the best variety of all the mangoes produced in India.

Fruits of India are exported to Bangladesh, UAE, UK, Malaysia, Pakistan, Netherland, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia and Nepal.
