As 2018 reaches its cessation, two biggies are all set to smash the box office. Rajinikanth starrer 2.0 and Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero. Similarly, Bollywood is in no mood to fascinate and pull you to the theaters even in the year to come. Yes, 2019 also has some big flicks slated to release in its first quarter. So, let’s take a look at the upcoming big films in 2019.
Manikarnika- The Queen of Jhansi
The first big release of 2019 will be the much-awaited Manikarnika- The Queen of Jhansi stars the Queen of Bollywood Kangna Ranaut in and as Jhansi Ki Rani. The film is a period biopic based on the life of Rani Laxmi Bai who sacrificed her life during the battle of 1857.
This period drama has been already in the buzz since its announcement for various reasons but when the first teaser hit the internet it swept it big time and got appreciation from all ends. This film could be a game changer for Kangna as her last a few films could not do well at the ticket window. Manikarnika release date is 25 January.
Super 30
Another controversial biopic of a living personality named Anand Kumar. This Hrithik Roshan starrer made headlines the moment Vikash Bahl, the co-producer and director, was accused of sexual harassment by a former employee of Phantom films.
Hrithik Roshan is playing Anand and will portray the struggle of Anand and how he managed to run this most amazing and reputed education program Super 30. Mrunal Thakur is playing the female lead in the film. Super 30 is also slated to release on 25 January.
Badla
The remake of the 2016 Spanish thriller Contratiempo, Badla stars Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu. Red Chillies Entertainment and Azure Entertainment are co-producing the film, which is all set to release on 8 March 2019.
Sujoy Ghosh is helming this thriller and the principal photography of the film started on 14 June 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland. Badla co-stars Ali Fazal, Akash Puri, and Tony Luke.
Gully Boy
Starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, Gully Boy is a musical drama based on the lives of Vivian Fernandes aka Divine and Naved Shaikh aka Naezy who got popularity for their song ‘Mere Gully Mein’ in Mumbai.
Directed by Zoya Akhtar, a large part of its shooting has been done and now it’s in the phase of post-production. Gully Boy is confirmed to hit theaters on 14 February 2019.
Mental Hai Kya
Another Kangna starrer, Mental Hai Kya is a tale of love with some quirky twists of human behavior flaws. Rajkumar Rao is playing the male lead in the film and it will be his second project with Kangna after Queen.
Produced by Ekta Kapoor, Mental Hai Kya is helmed by Prakash Kovelamudi. The major section of the film has already been shot in various cities of the world including Italy and the film is slated to release on 29 March 2019. The interesting part is that the song Bardaasht Nahin Kar Sakta from Humraaz has been recreated for the film by Tanishk Bagchi and it might be one of the chartbusters of the year.
