After we come out of the Interview room, we definitely will have one of the feelings either you have nailed it or completely bombed it. The curiosity kills you till the results are out. But there are some telltale signs that can help you figure out whether the job offer is coming your way or not.
How confident are you before, during, and after a job interview? Others may step into the interview room anxious, but leave with a beaming smile; while others enter and leave the other way around.
If you leave the interview unsure about whether or not you aced it, you’ll spend hours thinking about it and analyze if you misread the signs or not. If you’re just not quite sure where you stand, especially if you’re feeling good afterward, here are a few good signs that should help you see whether or not you nailed the job interview:
They asked for references
Usually, hiring managers who didn’t find interest in an applicant wouldn’t bother asking them for references. If they asked you for yours, chances are you are a strong candidate shortlisted for the position.
The conversations transitioned to casual
Job interviews get down to business immediately as it starts since the hiring manager may have a handful of candidates to talk to in a day. The interviewer makes sure to ask everything important regarding the job, usually, they are direct and means business only. If you noticed they steered from formal to conversational, that is a good sign.
If they stopped talking about the job and started a casual conversation, chances are the hiring manager was impressed with your qualifications and want to get to know you more beyond that, in case you get chosen to join the company.
You’re scheduled for follow-up interviews
Getting an invitation for another round of interview (could be second or final) is a sure sign that you’re close to getting the job and that you’re among the very few they see fit for the position. So if you get a call to come back, that’s something to be positive for and be confident about.
They gave you a short tour and introduction
Hiring managers don't give all interviewees a tour of their office willy nilly. That’s a gesture they don't extend to everyone. If you’re given brief introduction about how the company works, what your team will be like, what the day-to-day operations you’d perform; and introduce you to the people as s/he shows you around, you’re definitely the candidate.
Their body language indicates so
If you see that the hiring manager is nodding and smiling along, listening intently, and showing genuine interest in you during the duration of your interview, it’s likely that they found your company pleasant. Word of caution, though, as this doesn’t necessarily signify that you have a high chance of scoring a final interview. It could be that the hiring manager is just friendly. However, if you analyze the whole scenario and notice a warm welcome from them topping off the smooth interview you had, then it is a good sign.
They give you details on the next step
Not to overcomplicate things, essentially when someone says they’ll “reach out to you in a couple of days with an offer” or “we’ll be in contact soon,” that’s a no-brainer that you nailed the interview and the next step is job offer. However, if you get a vague or less than welcoming response such as “we’ll reach out soon with the result” or “thank you for coming in, we’ll get back to you,” these are signs that you did not ace it.
