Is buying medicines online safe?

You must have noticed that drug companies have started targeting their customers through newspapers, TV channels, and phone calls and promote their products these days. The ‘alleged’ medicines can be purchased directly from them rather you look for it in the market. Moreover, the medicines are available online. Certainly, there are some benefits of buying medicines online, for instance, you can buy them from anywhere and that too at a cheap price. However, there are some risks attached to it as well. Let’s know what are they:

• It is possible that the quantity of the active content used to make a certain medicine might be incorrect and it might be completely incorrect.
• This is also possible that the medicine that you get online is not manufactured, packaged, and stored following the right procedure, and thus it is no more effective. They might turn into poison if anything of such sort involves during its ride from manufacturing to your doorstep.

• Many medicines claim to be the cure for medical conditions like leanness, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. and those who suffer from any of these fall into the trap easily and start losing not only money but health as well.
• The patient of a malignant disease is usually more prone to such traps. They are ready to use any medicine, thus they risk trying those, which are not tested.
• The uncontrolled use of online medicines makes the authentic treatment ineffective.
• Medicine taken without the expert’s prescription might react with the ones the patient is already taking.
• Here comes the importance of taking a prescription from a well-trained doctor into the picture.
• During my research on this, I have observed that no registration number, no ingredients, and their quantity are mentioned on the labels, yet their business blooms. Thanks to the rigorous marketing and the poor capability of ours who despite being well educated fail to understand the fact.
• Besides, the consumer can contact the seller only through a mail or a call.    

Corrective Measures 

• The government needs to keep an eye on such drug companies.
• We also have to avoid buying medicines from such platforms as it is not only a waste of money but also dangerous for health.
