How to become a cricket Umpire?

Just like other professions, we have good opportunities even for Umpires in India. Being BCCI Umpire is a lucrative career and of course, have a good competition. One should also be physically fit to be the umpire. Though a simple degree would do, there are few things important.

  • You must have been a club-level or a state-level cricket player.
  • You must have complete knowledge of the 42 laws of cricket.
  • You need to qualify theory exams conducted by DDCA (Delhi and District Cricket Association).
  • After passing the test by DDCA, you can apply for BCCI exam. You should get endorsed by your state cricket association for this.
  • If you want to opt for International Umpiring, you should get endorsed by BCCI to ICC.

Coming to the psychological requirements, they consider a few things.

  • You must have a very good emotional balance.
  • Should have the ability to take decisions spontaneously.
  • Must have a very keen observation.
  • Should never lose temper.
